What is the steering column? The steering wheel is connected to the steering box or rack and pinion steering system by the steering column and allows the driver to turn the wheel with ease. Many functions such as a shifter handle, turn signal, wiper activation handle, a button for hazard lights, a tilt lever to move the steering column up or down and a horn feature are attached to the steering column. How do you know your steering column needs to be replaced? Wheel chocks are placed around the vehicle's tires and the battery is disconnected so the air bags can be disabled. The broken steering column is removed and replaced with a new column.
