About Lubricate Driveshaft
Why does the driveshaft need to be lubricated? The driveshaft helps to transmit torque along the drivetrain. Every part of the driveshaft that meets another part of the vehicle needs to maintain sufficient lubrication in order to minimize wear and tear and possible damage. How do you know driveshaft needs to be lubricated? You notice signs of wear and tear of parts along the drivetrain When the vehicle is in gear you notice grating or scraping sounds There may be vibration in the vehicle while it is running How is the driveshaft lubricated by a mobile mechanic? The vehicle is lifted onto jack stands and the U-joints on the driveshaft(s) are located. The Zerk grease fittings are located and new grease is pumped in using a grease gun. How important is it to have your drive shaft replaced? The parts of a driveshaft are subject to a lot of force, and insufficient lubrication is one of the top reasons driveshafts fail. Driveshafts also often fail while the vehicle is in motion and can damage other vehicle parts in the process.
