What does the radiator do? The radiator plays a critical role in the overall operation of the engine. It keeps the engine from overheating. Coolant is circulated through the radiator to the engine where it absorbs the heat and then is returned to the radiator. The radiator cooling fans blow cool air over the radiator to lower the temperature of the coolant then it is returned through the engine to absorb more heat. The radiator has two tanks that are connected by brass tubes. These tanks are usually plastic and its common for it to crack over time causing fluid to leak.
