What does the distributor rotor and cap do? The Distributor cap and rotor receives voltage from the ignition coil and distributes it to the spark plugs in the engines cylinders via spark plug wires. The cap sits on top of the rotor and holds the spark plug wires in place so they can absorb electrical current from the rotor as the rotor spins. How do you know your distributor rotor and cap needs to be replaced?
