What does the differential and fluid do? The differential is a component in all vehicles and is designed to compensate for the difference in distance between the inner wheels and outer wheels travel as the car goes around a corner. In a rear-wheel-drive ca? the differential has its own housing and lubricatio? a thic? dark oil. Front-drivers typically integrate the differential in the transmission housing and share the same fluid. The differential oil lubricates the ring and pinion gears that transfer power from the driveshaft to the wheel axles. If your car is fitted with a limited-slip differentia? it also keeps all the moving parts in that assembly healthy. A differential allows your car to make corners without drama. If both drive wheels rotated togethe? theyd jump-skitter because the outside tire travels farther than the inside. There are many variations on the desig? but they fall into three categories: ope? limited-sli? and torque-vectoring. Open: The oldest type of differential. Its simpl? rugged design is widely used. The powered pinion gear meshes with the ring gea? which in turn transmits power to both axles through a second set of gears. When slippage occur? power is directed to the wheel with the least grip. Limited-Slip: To overcome this proble? a clutch system is installed into the differential. The action of the mechanism locks the left and right-side axles together if wheel slip happens?Torque-Vectorin? this is the latest and greatest type of differential. This design employs the full array of sensors in a car to determine which wheel should be getting the most power and uses electronic controls and clutches to direct it there How important is having your differential fluid changed? Changing the differential fluid is just as important as changing your engines motor oi? and for the same reason. Metal-to-metal contact wears down surfaces and creates heat from frictio? which inevitably weakens the gears and leads to failure?Changing the differential fluid is one of the most-overlooked maintenance tasks on non-FWD light truck? SUV? and passenger vehicles. Because the differential is at the rear and under the vehicl? it gets none of the star treatment that the engine up front does. Howeve? if lubrication in the differential fail? you wont be getting very far for very long. Fortunatel? you only need to change this oil every 4?000 to 9?000 kms

5-Star Service
5-Star Service
"I'm a big fan of this incredibly convenient service! GoWrench staff do a great job and respect your time, unlike the nightmare that is involved in visiting the dealership/auto shop just to get your tires rotated or oil change. I shouldn't have to lose a day of work, two times a year, just for regular maintenance & tire swaps -- and with GoWrench, I never have to deal with the patronizing, dirty, and time-consuming service at the car dealership or auto shop, again!"
